Job Description:
The Proteomics Project Scientist is a part of the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute (SBP) Proteomics Core facility, primarily focused on developing and supporting large-scale proteomics projects. We are seeking someone who works well as part of multi-investigator teams, providing expertise in proteomics technology and in conducting proteomics analysis to address important biomedical questions. The Proteomics Project Scientist will also work closely with the other Proteomics Core staff to provide collaborative and integrated support for a wide range of proteomics projects. The Project Scientist reports to the VP, Scientific Resources at SBP in La Jolla.
The Proteomics Project Scientist has responsibilities that include the following:
Design and carry out LC-MS/MS based proteomics experiments.
Perform initial analysis of MS data, and collaborate with bioinformatics experts and biologists for deeper data analysis.
Develop and implement new proteomics assays to address specific biological questions.
Provide proteomics expertise and work collaboratively with investigators from SBP and other institutions to help build successfully funded scientific teams working on projects with a substantial proteomics component.
Actively participate with investigators in writing grants and manuscripts.
Required Skills
Required Experience
Requires a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field and a minimum of four years of experience performing proteomics analysis utilizing advanced LC-MS instruments; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Experience in both targeted proteomics analysis and large-scale proteomics analysis.
Experience with modern proteomics instrumentation, with the ability to troubleshoot and overcome experimental and instrument problems.
Demonstrated ability to set up and carry out effective proteomics experiments, including preparing samples, performing LC-MS analysis, and analyzing/interpreting data.
Strong verbal and written communications skills and ability to work independently, as well as part of a team on collaborative projects.
