Job Description:
Nemours is seeking a Research Applications Developer to join our team in Wilmington, Delaware.

This position is responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and support of applications (software), which support the operations of the Nemours Bioinformatics Core Facility. This position will work at several phases of the software development life-cycle and will be personally responsible for front-end application appearance and functionality: requirements gathering/specification, designing interfaces, writing code, compliance testing, documentation, maintenance, and some user support. The successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of research and technical requirements for each assigned project.

The individual in this position must work well with other members of the bioinformatics core.

  • Design, develop, test, document, and maintain applications needed for bioinformatics and biomedical informatics using technologies that include but are not limited to HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, XML/RDF, JSON, PHP, Python, Perl, MySQL, PostgreSQL and R.
  • Ensure usability and accessibility across all projects - Coding to w3c standards for web-based applications and observing team-specified coding standards in all languages.
  • Provide support to Bioinformatics staff. Write, design, and produce instructional material for use by end-users.
  • Tests, troubleshoots, and analyzes complex system problems and determines solution. Must be willing to work during non-business hours when needed to meet project and grant-related deadlines.
  • Requirements Documentation & Project conception - Create documentation from initial job request through completion. <7li>
  • Assess and make recommendations regarding tools, languages, methodologies, and processes pertaining to the work of the Bioinformatics Core.
  • Keep up to date with a wide range of communications technologies (particularly those related to web-based applications), and operationalize those new technologies as they provide benefit to the work of the Core.
Additional Requirements:
  • Interact with all members of the Core staff to develop and maintain continuity of projects.
  • Utilize project management skills to ensure accuracy and timeliness of work.
  • Respond to operational and user problems.
  • Provide user training as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related field required.
  • Expertise in at least three of the following technologies HTML5, CSS3, SQL, MVC, Docker, JavaScript, PHP, JSP, DOM as well as scripting languages such as perl, bash, Python or R.
  • Proficiency with application software testing (unit, integration, and application-level). Familiarity with QA Test Plans and QA Methodologies.
  • Proficiency with at least one of the following programming languages: C, C++, Objective C, Java, Scala.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communications skills with the ability to interact effectively with Core staff and members of other departments. Ability to work in a fast paced / dynamic team environment and possess time management skills to meet schedules. <7li>
