Job Description:
Applications are invited for a one-year Research Assistant position on wireless body-centric solutions for biomedical applications, with a particular focus on localisation and tracking techniques of implanted radio devices in the digestive system.

The responsibilities of the role are to conduct numerical and experimental investigations into suitable antennas and radio front-end designs to be integrated within a user-centred wearable solution capable of monitoring implanted wireless devices for diagnostic and intervention, conduct studies with input from clinical experts specifically on more suitable novel tracking and localisation algorithms, and to work on a team creating new solutions which build on the existing skills of trained biomedical engineers and clinicians. The studies will explore the optimum system designs and also placement for accurate and efficient results including wearer’s comfort and interaction considerations.

The ideal candidate will have experience in fabricating and testing antenna and radio system designs and conducting studies within controlled lab environments for biomedical applications (e.g. working with digital and physical phantoms, designing boy-centric front-ends, also algorithm analysis and creating, etc.) The candidate should have a Masters equivalent degree in one of the following: Electric/Electronic Engineering, Radio Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Bio-informatics. PhD degree will be desirable.

Experience with biomedical systems, clinical studies, statistical analysis and/or qualitative research methods is also welcome.

Experience in numerical modelling using commercial software packages or self-designed codes, and designing or evaluating hardware or software systems is essential for this role. Ability to design electronic circuits and/or work with microcontrollers would be desired.

This post is part of Queen Mary University of London, Life Sciences Initiative Proof of Concept fund, as part of a collaborative effort between the Antennas & Electromagnetics Group and at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and the Blizard Institute at the School of Medicine and Dentistry. This is a full time post for 1 year starting 1 December 2017 or as soon as feasible. The salary will be £30,445 per annum inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
