Job Description:
This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic bioinformatician, looking to further develop skills in human genetics, to contribute to our core programme studying the genetics of inherited cardiovascular diseases at the National Heart & Lung Institute.

Duties and responsibilities:

You will be embedded in a well-established bioinformatics team in an excellent scientific and training environment. You will be responsible for supporting key projects working alongside clinical and academic researchers in the wider group, and will play an integral role in research programmes investigating the genetic basis of inherited cardiac conditions. Your initial focus will be on supporting bioinformatic analyses, including quality control of next-generation sequencing data, variant annotation and interpretation, and statistical analysis, and will process data (using existing in-house bioinformatic pipelines) in preparation for downstream analysis. You will also have opportunities for hands-on analysis with guidance and mentorship from other members of the bioinformatics team.

Essential requirements:

You will need to be a confident computational biologist, ideally with a masters in bioinformatics and with experience analysing high-throughput sequencing data and knowledge of human cardiovascular genetics. You will have scripting skills in R/Perl/Python and shell, and ideally will have experience working in a high-performance computing environment. You will also be able to adapt quickly as part of a cross-disciplinary team in a rapidly changing environment.
