Major/Essential Duties Of Job Assist with the setup and maintenance of computers associated with the Genome Analysis Laboratory. Provide genome database general operational user support. Help users identify problems with the operation of web-based bioinformatics tools and suggest appropriate corrections. Serve as a point of contact for bioinformatics researchers, staff, and students. Assist with generating research quality data and reports. Document problems and actions by completing production logs. Perform preventive maintenance requirements and tests following manufacturer's instructions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories. Anticipating needed supplies and maintaining supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies. Maintain confidentiality of client information. Occasional Duties Work with faculty, students, and staff on various biology research related projects. Other duties as assigned. Required Education And Experience This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Biology, Genetics and/or Biochemistry or related field. Preferred Education And Experience Experience porting Genome data sets into the web-based bioinformatics package Galaxy. Required Special Knowledge, Abilities, And Skills Familiarity with the web-based bioinformatics package Galaxy. Requires the ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
