Job Description:
This full time position for a programmer/analyst supports statistical genomics research projects in genomics related to brain function. This position focuses on computational and quantitative solutions to complex genetic and epigenetic problems using both existing approaches and development of novel methodologies. Methods to be conducted comprise a variety of statistical approaches applied to neuroimaging data, expression, DNA methylation and genotyping analyses and integration of these datasets, as well as examination of clinical correlates and network analyses.

This position will operate in a multi-disciplinary group of statistical analysts, faculty and staff who are dedicated to discovering new insights into causal mechanisms and pathophysiology of brain function. This is an initial 90 day contract, with the option for a 12 month contract based on performance.

Required Qualifications:

-Master’s degree with major courses in Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related computational / statistical discipline and 3 years of relevant experience, OR Bachelor's degree with major courses in field of research (or RN or allied health professional) and 5 years of relevant experience.

-Experience in processing, integration and analyses of different data types.

-Demonstrated experience with data mining techniques.

-Knowledge of or an interest in learning genomics analyses.

-Ability to work independently as well as in teams.

-Documented expertise in R., Python or Perl, and SQL.

-Experience in the field of genetics, especially human genetics.

-Excellent problem solving skills, the ability to think creatively about challenges, and motivation to tackle scientific questions.

-Firm understanding of statistical methods.

-Ability to communicate effectively with collaborators both internally and externally.

-Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet tight timelines.

-Experience using public bioinformatics databases such as NCBI, Ensembl or the UCSC Genome Browser and tools such as Bioconductor or Bioperl, Java, Splus or SAS.

-Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications: MS in data-related science with 2+ years’ experience with genomic data.
