Job Description:
The Department of Genetics in the School of Medicine at LSUHSC in New Orleans is seeking to fill a Research Associate position. The successful candidate will provide computational support for the Bioinformatics and Genomics program. Primary responsibilities include development and deployment of algorithms, custom made and publicly available software and pipelines for the processing and analysis of high-throughput omics, genotype, next generation sequencing and other biological data; management quality control, analysis and integration of large-scale multiplatform data; and management and maintenance of Windows and Linux-based computer workstations, the Linux cluster and data storage servers and backup systems.

Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with an emphasis on Bioinformatics .

-Five years of experience in computer programming using R, Perl, C, C++, Python, Java languages along with experience in installing software, administering and troubleshooting both Windows and Linux-based systems.

-Five years of experience in use of bioinformatics tools and genomics resources with application to human diseases, specifically with application to analysis of omics, genotype, next generation sequence and DNA methylation data.

-Five years of experience in high-throughput sequencing systems and their file formats is critical along with programming experience and expertise to develop and troubleshoot software programmed in a variety of computer language.

OR

Master of Science degree in Computer Science with an emphasis on Bioinformatics

Two (2) years of experience

OR

Recent PhD graduate in Computer Science focused on Bioinformatics

Two (2) years of experience
