Job Description:
Applies experience and technical skills obtained from a concentrated degree program in the biomedical sciences, computer science or engineering in defining requirements and designing and developing highly specialized programs and applications in a research setting. In addition, this position mentors junior level colleagues. This position will be 50% grant funded.

Primary responsibilities include:

1. Collects, evaluates, interprets, and documents research data to accomplish the objectives of a wide variety of scientific experiments and research projects.

2. Influences project direction and outcomes by identifying opportunities to enhance, terminate, or re-direct research activities.

3. Evaluates and interprets data and provides results to investigators to support publication.

4. Maintains quality control checks and a safe environment in compliance with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulation and codes.

5. Assists in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers and grant proposals for presentation and publication.

6. Provides direction and training to lab personnel to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results in compliance with all protocols, guidelines, regulations, etc.

7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Organizational Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering with a minimum of three years relevant research experience in appropriate scientific area. Professional competency in one or more of the following scientific programming languages: JAVA, C# .NET framework, Perl, Python, or other scientific programming languages as appropriate to research focus. Professional competency in mathematical modeling and statistical computing required.

Departmental Requirements/Preferences:

Preferred Master's Degree in a basic science, informatics, biomedical engineering, bioinformatics.

Candidates must have expertise in ONE of the following three areas:

Area #1: Clinical Research and Statistics

- Assists faculty in the development of new statistical methodology for measurement and analysis of data

- Applies advanced statistical methods, simulation models, and skilled statistical programming as needed.

- Compiles, analyzes and reports statistical data for various projects including, but not limited to manual and computer-aided data abstraction and evaluation, clinical trials, computerized imaging

- Must be skilled in the usage of EXCEL, MS ACESS,. Statistical packages such as SPSS or SAS

Area #2: Clinical Informatics

- Candidates must have experience with the following

- Data mining and machine learning

- Informatics , network theory, MySQL

Area #3: Clinical Big Data expertise

- Candidates must have experience with one of the following:

- Coding in MATLAB or Python, R, PERL, JAVA, C/C++ would be preferred.

- Familiar with any big data framework such as Hadoop or Spark is preferred.

- Familiarity with Visualization tools such as Tableau, D3.js etc is preferred
