Job Description:
Research Associate Cardiff University Location: Cardiff Salary: £31,342 to £37,394 Per annum (Grade 6) Hours: Full Time Contract Type: Contract / Temporary Placed on: 15th June 2015 Closes: 13th July 2015 Job Ref: 3368BR

A position is available for a Research Associate to conduct research within Neuroscience, in the lab of Professor Frank Sengpiel. You will join an established and productive team of researchers employing cutting edge brain imaging and electrophysiological techniques to probe the cortical circuitry underlying visual processing. This is a BBSRC funded project with the broad aim of investigating the cortical circuit abnormalities which underlie brain based diseases of the visual system such as amblyopia.  You will use cellular resolution imaging techniques to elucidate mechanisms of cortical plasticity in a project which builds on our earlier discovery of diverse mechanisms of ocular dominance plasticity in juvenile and adult visual cortex. You will make use of two-photon microscopy together with genetically encoded neural activity indicators, electrophysiological and optogenetic techniques to analyse how different cell types contribute to visual processing in the cortex as it adapts to a changing visual environment, and examine the behavioural repercussions of impairments in this cortical plasticity.

The successful candidate will have a Postgraduate degree at PhD level in a related subject area or relevant industrial experience, experience within Neuroscience, knowledge of in vivo physiological techniques, neuroimaging or optogenetic techniques and proven ability to publish in international journals.

This is a full-time position, fixed-term for 3 years.
