Job Description:
Applications are invited for an ERC funded Post Doctoral Bioinformatician position in Dr Helen Rowe's research group.

Dr Rowe's group conduct innovative research on how transposons, which comprise half of the human genome, switch genes on and off through epigenetic mechanisms. The post-holder will investigate how transposons remodel the genome during embryonic stem cell differentiation and during reprogramming. They will work with students and postdocs in Dr Rowe's group generating hypotheses through the analysis of RNA-sequencing and ChIP-sequencing data focused on transposon functions. There will also be the opportunity for the post-holder to develop new techniques and to have their own additional transposon project upon mutual agreement.

The post-holder will attend meeting with bioinformaticians in the recently built Bill Lyons Informatics Centre at the UCL Cancer Institute, adjacent to the Cruciform Building where Dr Rowe's group is based.

The post-holder will also collaborate with computational biologists in Professor Richard Goldstein's group within the Division of Infection and Immunity

Appointment at grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a Phd; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (salary £30,316 - £31,967 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis or to start date of appointment as appropriate.

The post is available immediately for 2 years in the first instance.

The successful applicant should have a PhD (or about to be awarded) in Bioinformatics.

Experience in analysing RNA-sequencing and ChIP-seq data independently as well as experience in programming skills using Perl and Python are essential requirements.

They must be able to manage time and work to strict deadlines. They must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a wide range of colleagues.
