Job Description:
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate position to work with Professor Simon Tavaré FRS and other members of the Statistics and Computational Biology Laboratory at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. The position is part of an exciting integrative data analysis project funded by the CRUK Oesophageal International Cancer Genome Consortium Study led by Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald from the MRC Cancer Cell Unit and requires close working across the two groups.

The aim of the project is to characterize both genomic and epigenomic alterations in Oesophageal Adenocarcinoma and understand their clinical relevance by exploiting whole genome sequencing, methylation and transcriptomic data from 500 tumour samples with appropriate controls. The sequence data is now close to maturity.

We are looking for a bioinformatician with experience in transcriptomics data analysis and integration with other -omics datasets to answer translational questions relevant to diagnosis and therapy of Oesophageal Adenocarcinoma along with identifying features that can be predictive in precision medicine. There are opportunities to validate results and generate further data in support of these projects through the collaboration with the Fitzgerald lab. In addition to leading their own project the successful applicant will have the opportunity to collaborate with other projects involving molecular biologists and bioinformatics and statistics researchers in the area.

Applicants must have:

- PhD (or equivalent) in computational biology, statistics, bioinformatics or similar field

- Experience with large-scale "-omic" data analysis

- Experience in working in linux environment with strong programming and scripting skills and a commitment to reproducible analyses.

- Evidence of independence and of the ability to develop novel statistical or bioinformatical methods is essential

- Experience of cancer biology would be a strong advantage. Experience of integrating 'omics' datasets is desirable. Experience with R as a statistical programming environment is preferred.

- The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills as well as the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of researchers.
