Research Associate, Bioinformatics

Job Description:
Our client is looking for a talented Bioinformatician to help translate discoveries in microbiology and mucosal immunology into new treatments for a range of immune and infectious diseases. The RA will perform bioinformatics analysis of next-generation sequencing data. The principal activities will include bacterial isolate genome assembly, open reading frame prediction, functional pathway analysis, and metagenomic analysis of microbial communities. Analyses will also involve the implementation of statistical algorithms to infer taxonomic or functional associations among sample groups to support ongoing clinical and pre-clinical programs. The job title and level will correspond to the experience and skills of the selected candidate.

Requirements:

• BSc or MS (preferred) with 1+ years of experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or related field.
• Experienced in multiple high-level programming languages (Python, Perl, BASH, C++)
• Large dataset management experience and proficiency with version control are required.
• Experience in at least one of the following types of analysis is required: microbial genome annotation, metabolomics, transcriptomics, and/or metagenomics.
• Experience with data visualization, presentation, and statistical analysis in R is strongly preferred.
• Hands on molecular biology or next-generation sequencing library preparation experience is favorable.
• Highly organized and motivated individual. Must be a team player, able to work well in a group setting as well as independently in a fast paced environment.
