Job Description:
Applications are invited for the role of Research Associate in the Research group of Professor Finn Werner in the Department of Structural and Molecular Biology at UCL.

The post holder will analyse large-scale datasets from a range of archaeal species archaea (eury- and crenarchaea, including M. jannaschii, and Sulfolobales species) to extract biological meaningful information with respect to the complex relationships involving genome topology and neighbourhood analysis (HiSeq), genome-wide occupancy (ChIP-seq, ChIP-exo, NET-seq) of the basal transcription machinery (basal transcription factors and RNA polymerase) and chromatin-related proteins (histones and beyond), and transcriptome analysis (RNA-seq).

The successful candidate must hold a PhD (or be close to obtaining) in a relevant discipline, preferably with knowledgeable in the field of transcription and RNA polymerase systems. General scientific knowledge in genetics/gene regulation and the ability to perform computational tasks to a consistently high standard is essential. In addition, applicants should have knowledge and practical experience in biological research as well as experience in large-scale techniques and high-throughput data. Extensive practical experience in relevant computational approaches, bioinformatics, and next-generation sequence data analysis is essential. The post will suit someone who has a strong interest in transcription, and the mechanisms of molecular machines including nucleic acid polymerases and ribosomes.

Please note: Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (salary £30,316 – £31,967 per annum, including London allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (including corrections).
