Job Description:
We are currently seeking applicants for a postdoctoral research position in systems genomics at the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU), Department of Public Health and Primary Care, University of Cambridge. The post will suit an ambitious and talented researcher, who is interested in applying their skills in the genetics/genomics field. The successful candidate will be involved in statistical analyses of cardiovascular outcomes and risk factors using multi-omic data, including genetic, proteomic, metabolomic, transcriptomic, and metagenomics data. The primary role of the post holder will be to lead systems genomics projects, involving the joint statistical analysis and interpretation of multi-omic data and development of new methodology using the Unit's vast portfolio of genetic and multi-omic data. Currently this data comprises ~100,000 participants with extensive information on many cardiovascular risk factors and genetic data measured using various microarrays, ~50,000 participants with metabolomics data, and ~3,000 participants with plasma proteomics data. Imminent experiments will vastly increase the wealth and types of multi-omic data available for these cohorts. Essential Qualifications/Skills: - PhD in one of the following subjects - Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Statistical Genetics, Mathematics or similar or have equivalent experience. - Experience working with multi-omic data types, including quality control and statistical analysis. - Experience with inference and analysis of networks for analysis of multi-omic data. - A sound understanding of statistical concepts, ideally in relation to genetics. - Strong quantitative (in silico) analysis skills using statistical programming packages such as R. - Experience of statistical method development. - High level report writing and presentational skills. Appointment at research associate is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience is recognised), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be awarded appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded.
