Job Description:
The Johns Hopkins Mood Disorders Center is seeking a highly-motivated Bioinformatics Scientist to work at the forefront of genomics research on mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder. The candidate will serve as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary genomics research team by developing and implementing software tools, pipelines and workflows for analyzing high-throughput genomics, epigenomics, and transcriptomics data.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement scripts to parse, process, and analyze genome-wide data sets. • RNA sequencing, and methyl sequencing studies, as well as array data from genome-wide association, gene expression and methylations studies.
  • Carry out data analyses in parallel on large compute cluster; integrate, organize and analyze program output.
  • Manage research data-sets on file servers and ensure their appropriate backup, completeness, correctness and integrity.
  • Prepare reports of findings by compiling results, generating figures, and preparing tables from analyses of genomic studies.
  • Assist in preparing scientific presentations, grant applications and manuscripts, with the opportunity if appropriate
Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistical Genetics or related field and one (1) or more years experience. Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
