Health Sciences Research, Division of Biomedical Statistics and Informatics The Division of Biomedical Statistics and Informatics within the Department of Health Sciences Research invites applications for a postdoctoral position in data science with an emphasis in machine learning applied to healthcare.

This position has been created, in part, to stimulate innovative applications and methodological advances to systematically analyze, integrate and model the diverse, well-curated healthcare data generated at Mayo Clinic. These data sources include advanced imaging modalities, genetic data, healthcare utilization and operations data, among the more typical healthcare encounters data. Our overall aim for this postdoctoral fellowship is create a laboratory for the successful candidate to advance data science in health care through his or her own professional growth. Fellows will be mentored by Dr. Rickey Carter and other faculty investigators within the Division of Biomedical Statistics and Informatics at Mayo Clinic. The Department is a vibrant and well-funded environment, with strong mentoring and training opportunities for individual career development that spans three primary research campuses: Rochester, MN; Jacksonville, FL; and Phoenix, AZ. This position is expected to be primarily housed in Jacksonville, FL, but there will be travel opportunities across the enterprise to foster professional development and scientific advances. In addition, Fellows will have access to a wealth of resources including high-quality data and state-of-the-art high performance computing facility. Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.

Qualifications:

The applicant must have a Ph.D. in one of the following fields: biostatistics, bioinformatics, biophysics, computer science or any engineering/science discipline. Ph.D. candidates with an upcoming anticipated graduation are strongly encouraged to apply. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong ability to independently and creatively solve research problems while working effectively with the principal investigator and colleagues is required. Prior experience working with machine learning as demonstrated through past research accomplishments, would be ideal. Furthermore, the candidate should be familiar with programming languages commonly used in data science (e.g. R, Python, TensorFlow, etc.). Experience with image- and video-based classification is preferred.
