Job Description:
Conduct research and provide daily management to projects funded by NHGRI. Report to the Principal Investigator of the funded project, and interact with investigators, researchers from different backgrounds in the Institute of Genomics and System Biology. The White laboratory ( http://www.igsb.org/labs/kevin-white ) studies the coordinated action of networks of genes that control developmental, disease and evolutionary processes. We have a particular focus on the discovery of genetic factors that contribute to cancer development and progression, and on building genome-wide models of transcriptional networks. We use an integrated approach that makes use of genome and transcriptome sequencing, large-scale protein-protein and protein-DNA interaction analyses, measurement of chromatin state, systematic CRISPR- based mutational analysis and genomic engineering, and high throughput functional characterization of genomic regulatory elements. Our lab has made long-term contributions to the NIH/NHGRI ENCODE and modENCODE projects, to help establish the most comprehensive cis-regulatory networks in human, worm and fly.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of bioinformatics analysts and wet lab research personnel working on projects that utilize systems biology approaches for understanding gene regulatory networks.
  • Support the primary focus of the team which is to produce and analyze integrated data sets from high-throughput biological profiling technologies including ChIP-seq, massively parallel reporter assays, ATAC-seq, CRISPR/Cas9 on cultured cells and organoids.
  • Predictive analytics are then developed and used to better define the role of non-coding variation in disease processes including cancers and gene dysregulation in the human brain that is correlated with neuropsychiatric disorders.
Competencies:
  • Successful development of multifaceted research projects
  • Collaboration and communication
  • Quick development and implementation of new technologies
