Job Description:
The Lead BCR Clinical Data Coordinator is responsible for setting priorities in analyzing the BCR’s/ organization’s needs for clinical data in their supported area, understanding the systems and data available to the organization, identifying deficiencies in needed data, providing analysis, solutions, and leadership to overcome deficiencies and delivering available data to the business. This position will work with The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and clinical experts to determine and define requirements, deliver needed information and maintain data integrity. This position will work closely with the BCR Informatics team to define and set priorities for future data needs, recognize deficiencies in available data, and develop requirements for needed solutions.

Responsibilities:

Development

1. Facilitates and helps guide discussions with national experts in the fields of oncology and cancer research to aid in the conception, creation and design of clinical data documentation and standards

2. Works closely with the Informatics team to determine and communicate project data needs, implement systems/content changes, and ensure data transition to the XML

3. Recommends and contributes to the development of standard practices in information and data collection, and creates tools for and educates the BCR team(s) and Tissue Source Sites about requirements and standards

4. Responsible for information mining resources and related public data input-output reporting (public data portal) Strategic Planning

5. Plans and partners with internal and external parties to 6. Works with the National Cancer Institute (NCI)/TCGA Disease Working Groups, Analysis Working Groups, cancer Bioinformatics Grid (caBIG), and the BCR(s) to establish and achieve project goals regarding information flow Education Planning

7. Responsible for establishing priorities for curriculum assessment and development and the education needs of program participants at the BCR(s) and the Tissue Source Sites, the NCI and other TCGA collaborators Special Requests

8. Frequently assumes ad hoc projects and special requests for team while balancing existing priorities and workload for the BCR Clinical Data Office.

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

A bachelor’s degree or work equivalent experience in business, bioinformatics, communications, health care administration, education, or a related field with equivalent knowledge is required. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the above fields is required along with 2-4 years of data management experience in the medical field, clinical knowledge in oncology desired, and 1-2 years supervisory or team leader experience.

In addition, the following skills and abilities are required:

1. Strong analytical skills, including some exposure to database design, statistics and general business reporting. Must assemble, evaluate and understand large and complex information and studies, and identify current and future trends

2. Strong understanding and practical experience querying data utilizing various database systems and tools (OpenClinica, Informatica, Sapphire, etc.)

3. Must demonstrate strong quantitative and computer skills in relational data bases and spreadsheets

4. Strong communication skills required to interact with all levels of the organization to include a variety of hospital departments, clinicians, administrators and outside contacts

5. Must possess aptitude for training others (web and face-to-face on computer/software systems), with the ability to assess end-user understanding and proficiency to optimize training outcomes

6. Strong problem solving skills required. Must demonstrate critical thinking and ability to trouble-shoot and incorporate continuous quality improvement principals in daily activities.

7. Ability to effectively work in groups. Must be able to guide others through the use of process assessment and evaluation.

8. Skill in managing projects and ad hoc requests required. Supervisory skills desired.

9. Experience in administration and/or applied statistical work and demonstrate ability to operate independently with strong time management/organization abilities

10. Must be able to work well under pressure and possess high detail orientation

11. Team player with a positive attitude and customer service orientation

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Note frequency as Constantly (67-100%), Frequently (34-66%) and Occasionally (0-33%) for each requirement. Also note any lifting requirements with pound limit.
