Job Description:
The Division of Medical Genetics currently has an opportunity for a Research Scientist 2 position for a Bioinformatics Analyst in the Hawkins lab. The lab conducts a number of different next-generation sequencing-based experiments that require skills in large-scale data processing and integrative analysis. The ideal candidate will work independently to perform data processing, answer key questions from a computational biology approach, interpret experimental results, guide lab members through bioinformatic methods and analyses, and prepare results of research for presentation or publication.

The individual in this position will collaborate with the Investigator, postdoctoral fellows, staff and students to implement and develop computational methods and tools to assess various epigenomic changes using next-generation sequencing technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Process data for epigenomic analysis, including ChIP-seq, DNA methylation, RNA-seq, and HiC.
  • Integrative analysis of various large-scale data types.
  • Develop and/or implement tools for graphical visualization of data.
  • Handling next-generation sequencing data from the Illumina platform
  • Interpret results of data, and participate in manuscript writing
  • Proactively identify potential problems and address immediately or bring to the attention of the appropriate team member.
  • Perform research projects and related duties as assigned by the Investigator.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics or computer science with strong quantitative/bioinformatics background plus two or more years’ experience in bioinformatics data analysis

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience with RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, whole genome bisulfite sequencing, or HiC.
  • Demonstrable skills in programming, biostatistics, and database languages.
  • Experience with data visualization, understanding of statistical methods.
  • Ability to work, collaborate and communicate well will with a multidisciplinary team.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED:

Master’s degree in bioinformatics or computer science.
