Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatician with academic and/or industry experience to join our Computational Genomics team in the Translational Bioinformatics group. The mandate of the Computational Genomics group is to manage, integrate, process and create analysis-ready Genomics data sets for the use by Bioinformatics analysts to address defined translational questions within a framework of reproducible research and to provide access to internal and external Genomics data sets to the rest of the scientific community at BMS. The candidate is expected to be able to manage, integrate and develop the framework to facilitate access to multi-omic data from preclinical data, clinical trials as well as public genomics data set including the incoming digital health data sets. Team work skills will be essential to work effectively with the Next Generation Sequencing scientists, bioinformaticians, statisticians and software developers to extend the scope of our reproducible research framework.

Responsibilities:

·Develop an extension of our reproducible research framework to capture the start to end data processing of NGS sets including RNA-Seq, Exome and Whole Genome Sequencing, single cell sequencing.

·Collaborate with IT experts to expand the Bioinformatics cloud computing infrastructure using our guidelines of reproducible research.

·Initiate and plan strategies to develop a framework to utilize digital health data within the context of Genomics data. Collaborate with bioinformaticians, statisticians, biologists, and clinicians to identify critical questions that can be addressed via computational approaches.

Qualifications:

·Ph.D. or Masters level with 3+ years of relevant industry or academia experience required. Education should be in the fields of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or related disciplines.

·Functional fluency in at least one programming language (Python, Perl, JavaScript, Ruby, Java, C++) is required, and knowledge of additional languages is desirable.

·Ability to develop novel software to address problems defined by their research collaborators is required. Additionally, the ability to independently identify problems or new opportunities is required.

·Extensive experience in cloud computing including familiarity of Amazon’s Cloud Web Services.

·Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential.

·Ability to work in a Linux environment; more extensive experience in high-performance *nix systems are a must. Primary authorship of published open source code is highly desirable.

·Prior work in data integration, graph theory, semantic systems and/or published research on pharmaceutical disease areas is also desirable.

·Solid knowledge of R is required.

·Familiarity with statistical methods is desired.

·Sufficient knowledge of open source and commercial packages to recognize when existing software solutions are relevant.

·The ability to work across organizations to define and solve problems that will benefit the whole. Capable of establishing strong working relationships across the organization.
