The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics is seeking a Research Technologist II to work in the laboratory of Dr. Andrew Olive. The successful candidate will become part of a cutting-edge research team focused on understanding the host response to persistent bacterial pathogens. Job Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To:
- Oversee the organization and setup of a new research laboratory
- Order, reconcile, record, and manage delivery of lab supplies
- Supervise and train lab members in proper bio-safety, animal protocols and lab maintenance tasks
- Maintain training records
- Assist the principal investigator in experimental design and acquiring data for grants and manuscripts
- Acquire, analyze, and archive next generation sequencing data, with the opportunity to develop custom sequencing and analysis methods
- Participate in the writing/editing of manuscripts and grants
- Participate in regular research updates, lab meetings, department seminars and national/international conferences
- This is a limited term position that will start in July 2018 and will be funded for one year from date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
- Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Biology, Biostatistics, Computer Science or other related field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience with either biological lab work or data analysis and computer programming work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills; extremely motivated and dependable; ability to take charge and oversee lab procedures; experience doing lab work, animal work or bioinformatics; experience in computer programming in programs such as R, MatLab, or Python; experience with data analysis and statistics; interest in biological questions related to infectious diseases including a strong desire to learn cell culture, murine infection models, immunology, and or genetics; committed to a minimum of two years.
