Job Description:
The SBA provides timely and quality scientific support to prospective DNAnexus customers by promoting the scientific aspect of the DNAnexus product suite throughout the pre-sales process. Support is primarily provided via customer training and consultative engagements to help drive our Customer’s success. Customer support may be delivered via phone/conference calls, email, remote video and in person. This candidate also acts as a key interface between the Product Management, R&D and the customer for project review and hand off prior to commercial launch.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead scientific business development with customers and prospects
  • Generates scientific interest in DNAnexus products by presenting customized demonstrations to potential customers
  • Promotes confidence in DNAnexus technology and products by leading successful Proof of Concept services projects
  • Provides initial and continued scientific training on DNAnexus’ platform
  • Contributes to the scientific aspect of the sale of the platform, applications, and services including representing DNAnexus at trade shows and scientific conferences.
  • Solves platform, application, and scientific problems for customers in a pre-sales capacity
  • Puts our Customers’ needs first, owns solving our customer’s challenges.
  • Uses knowledge of DNAnexus technology solutions and the domain to advise customers on how to best leverage our products for their success
  • Consult with prospects and customers to design and propose scientific solutions leveraging DNAnexus and partner applications to enable our customer’s scientific objectives.
  • Contributes expertise and provides “voice of the customer” in synch with marketing counterparts, into continuous product improvement and new product development by discussing customer ideas and needs for new science and technology, performing proof of principle, and participating in R&D and marketing projects
  • Provides scientific input into the sales process through need identification, designing scientific pipeline, and performing feasibility studies
  • Partner with sales to develop and deliver successful solution proposals
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Customer First, in every interaction
  • In depth understanding of the bioinformatics market and the regulations around that market.
  • Proficiency in python
  • Proficiency or familiarity with the following programming languages is a plus, but not required: C/C++, java, R, shell scripting.
  • Familiarity with concepts of genomics and a general knowledge of NGS applications and downstream uses.
  • Familiarity with common bioinformatics applications: BWA, Samtools, GATK, Freebayes,
  • Basic understanding and competency with sales concepts and processes
  • Knowledge of using professional concepts and company's policies and procedures to solve a variety of problems; works on problems of moderate scope in which analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors; exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action; normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments
  • Excellent leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, a proactive approach and independent thinking to succeed in the department
Minimum Education & Previous Experience Required:
  • B.S. in relevant scientific discipline-- Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Biology with significant coursework in or subsequent exposure to programming
  • M.S. or Ph.D. desirable at Senior level
  • 4+ years' experience in genomics, bioinformatics, or computational biology
  • Ability to travel when required – Up to 50% at times
  • Previous experience in a scientific customer support role, in-house or in the field desired
  • Background in genomics markets
  • Background in enterprise software
  • Basic understanding and competency with sales concepts and processes
