Job Description:
Bioinformatician needed as a member of the Bioinformatics Core Research Facility (BCRF), part of the Center for Biotechnology. We seek a highly motivated bioinformatician that can provide computational bioinformatics services for faculty, staff and students. These services include but are not limited to genome or transcriptome assembly, SNP and variant analysis, differential gene expression, added-value annotation and/or visualization of results, statistical tests, integration of multiple date sources, metagenomics, and custom programming.

Minimum Required Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree in Computational Biology, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related life sciences oriented quantitative field plus more than 5 years of experience in a related quantitative field required. Must be proficient in two programming languages, one of which must be Perl. High level of analytical capability essential. Working knowledge of the Linux operating system necessary. Strong verbal communication and writing skills required. Must be able to easily communicate technical solutions to a non-technical audience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Computational Biology, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related sciences oriented quantitative field preferred. Two years of experience and MS or PhD preferred. Experience in Python, R/Bioconductor, and/or Matlab desirable. Experience running large workflows on HPC and HTC clusters helpful. Experience in current bioinformatics tools and applications preferred. Experience collaborating with subject matter specialists in the general area of life sciences desirable. Prefer prior experience working in biology-related sciences and/or a high throughput sequencing data analysis preferred. Experience in meta-genomics helpful. Ability to interact professionally with all levels of faculty, staff and students across different areas and levels of expertise (both experimental and computational) preferred. Ability to handle variety of tasks simultaneously, and work independently as well as part of a team desirable. Strong organizational, time management and project management skills helpful.
