Job Description:
To support this, the SCG group has an opportunity for a Scientific Computing Developer to join the multidisciplinary team of data managers, bioinformaticians, statisticians and modellers who are working to address high-burden diseases, including malaria, pneumonia, HIV, neglected tropical diseases and tuberculosis.

Working on both quantitative and qualitative approaches to data analysis, you will work within the SCG to support the development and maintenance of research data management and data analysis solutions throughout LSTM’s broad portfolio of research activities. You will also provide more general research data management support, training and advice for other research activities within LSTM.

The successful candidate will have a degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent in a computer science or related scientific/numerate subject, coupled with demonstrable programming experience in languages such as Perl, C++, Java, visual Basic, .net, C++, Android (java) etc.

With previous experience of software development, you will have experience of writing databases and transferring data between different software packages. Additionally, you will have a proven track record of creating, testing and debugging data driven solutions and palpable advanced SQL programming skills. It is essential to this role that you are able to work in a self-sufficient manner.

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.

The Scientific Computing Group (SCG) at LSTM, is a newly established and expanding expert user group that deals with various ways that LSTM generates, manages, collects, analyses and interprets data. The group provides expert advice, infrastructure and support for statistical, epidemiological, bioinformatics, modelling and other IT related projects to ensure that security and future stability/growth of scientific computing facilities is in line with changes to/expansion of LSTM’s estate, teaching and research portfolio.
