OMNITEC Solutions, Inc., (www.omnitecinc.com ) has an employment opportunity available in Rockville, Maryland (20855). As defined in our press release, OMNITEC Solutions has been awarded a 5-year contract to expand its model research data sharing / computational science infrastructure (see data-archive.nimh.nih.gov) in support of neurosciences research at the NIH.

Job Summary

This is a unique professional opportunity to use your skills to help the scientific community discover and make use of large scientific datasets using programmatic methods and cloud technologies. Additionally you will use scripting skills to organize large complex data sets and extract information useful to the scientific community supporting neuroscience research. There will also be opportunities to apply these skills to assist our DevOps team to analyze/use logging and other data sources to discover and address problems. This is a hands-on position versus people or project management.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Using your programming/scripting skills, science background, and overall data management skills, you will work with web services, large complex data sets, and the scientific community on a daily basis to aid in discovering data that may be of interest to our clients and end-users. The primary focus for this position will be to educate/illustrate how to utilize automated cloud technologies to work with the enormous amount of data housed in the NIMH Data Archive.

Additional duties will involve:

  • Organizing large datasets (i.e., whole genome sequencing) and extracting useful information from them that can be used to query the data.
  • Applying scripting / programming skills to analyze and visualize datasets for internal purposes (i.e., statistics on data use, log diving, etc.).
You will be in a supporting the Data Services team and interface with Web Developers and end-users who are Researchers, Scientists, or Data Managers.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A degree is required, preferably in life sciences, bioinformatics, or related field.
  • 1+ years hands-on experience with big and complex data sets is required, with any experience managing scientific or medical data like MRI data files, next-gen sequencing, etc., a big plus;
  • 1+ years experience working in a Unix Environment;
  • Experience using programming / scripting to work directly with web services;
  • Proven experience using scripting languages such as Perl, Python, Bash, Java Script on a daily basis;
  • Proven Attention to detail;
  • The ability to work collaboratively on projects with an intensely goal oriented team; Ability and willingness to take on multiple roles and shift priorities based project needs;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, to include demonstrable past work performance and/or assignments requiring active interaction with Researchers, Analysts, other technical staff, and end users;
  • US Citizenship is required along with the ability to pass a Minimal Background Investigation/MBI to ensure your access to client systems and work sites.
Additional Helpful Skills:
  • Amazon Web Services / AWS or other Cloud technologies (especially S3 and IAM);
  • Experience building applications using advanced Java frameworks (i.e., Angular JS, React JS);
  • DevOps experience: Git, Continuous Integration/Deployment, Docker Containers, Log Diving/Analysis.
