Job Description:
Under the supervision of members of the Lab for Data Intensive Biology, assist in developing and implementing predefined sequence analysis workflows of sequencing data. Execute, test, and benchmark software pipelines. Collaborate with others via the GitHub project management Web site. Assist with writing the programming related sections in short monthly reports. Physical Demands: Sit at a desk in front of a computer monitor for long periods of time.

Work Environment:

Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions. This position is 50% variable. Work regularly scheduled hours (between 8am-5pm), may work 20-40 hours a week and occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays to meet project priorities. Work flexible or extended hours as needed based on workload demands.

Travel to and from worksite (Center for Companion Animal Health University of California Davis, 95618). Remote work may be possible.

This position requires mandatory attendance at a secured FBI or Department of Homeland Security facility on a yearly basis. Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

- B.S. degree in the Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Physics or related field, or equivalent combination of experience and training.

- Knowledge of UNIX command line and either Python or R.

- Experience writing technical reports.

- Experience delivering technical presentations.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience working with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Knowledge of bioinformatics, genomics and/or sequence analysis.

- Experience programming with Python or R.
