Job Description:
The Scientific Programmer I will be responsible for independently building and maintaining workflows to support the submission and review processes for several machine learning conferences, including Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS), the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), and the International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR). For each conference, the incumbent will work closely with the program chairs and publication chairs and communicate regularly with the authors, reviewers, and area chairs. Responsibilities will include setting up and administering the Conference Management Toolkit (CMT) software for managing submissions and reviews; algorithmically matching submissions to reviewers and area chairs; sending automated emails to authors, reviewers, and area chairs; triaging and answering email inquiries regarding the submission and review processes and any technical issues relating to CMT; writing code for various ad hoc tasks; and gathering and analyzing data about the submission and review processes. The incumbent will also work with the PI and lab administrative manager to aggregate data for publication and will be responsible for exporting submission and review data to the conference websites.

Education: Required:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering or equivalent work experience.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in machine learning or equivalent work experience.

Experience: Required:

  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience with Python in a work environment.
  • 3+ years of experience with data processing libraries such as numpy, scipy, and pandas.
  • Experience with project management tools such as Slack, Hipchat, and JIRA.
  • Experience with data processing tools such as Excel.
Preferred:
  • Experience with machine learning methods.
  • Familiarity with OR toolkits and linear and non-linear solvers.
  • Familiarity with the Conference Management Toolkit (CMT).
  • Experience with databases and backup solutions.
Special Requirements:
  • Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment.
  • Must be able to occasionally work a flexible schedule to meet research needs and facilitate cross-timezone collaboration. Occasional nights and weekends will be required.
  • Successful completion of the Institute’s background investigation.
Physical Requirements: This position requires constant seeing, sitting, talking, analysis, calculating, analyzing, communicating and working inside.
