Job Description:
Excitingly the group is expanding and diversifying to rise to the new challenges of immune oncology and harness the fuller potential of data science for our portfolio. We are generating clinical and pre-clinical multi-omic data sets to advance precision medicine and drive a new generation of cancer targets. Multiple exciting opportunities exist for talented and motivated individuals to join the team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of drug project bioscience and translational science teams to understand their scientific and technical challenges and identify where data science can best impact.
  • Collaborate with industry and academia, and exploit external resources, to find the most effective solutions to problems.
  • Discover and develop new molecular targets, mechanisms and biomarker hypotheses.
  • Validate new assay technologies.
  • Design, code and/or apply innovative algorithms, workflows and visualizations to generate actionable biological insight:
    • Discover new ways to find meaningful patterns in complex data.
    • Integrate and interpret proprietary and public patient and in vitro/vivo model data spanning multiple molecular and phenotypic platforms.
  • Proactively engage in knowledge sharing and peer support
  • Adhere to and establish best practices and share reusable code.
  • Train our bench science community in the tools critical to understanding their data.
  • Prototype and steer development of query/visualization tools for bench scientists.
Essential Requirements:
  • A bachelor’s degree; plus a relevant PhD or a minimum of 3 years directly relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience of NGS data analysis to characterize complex somatic cancer variants.
  • Experience of data analysis and interpretation of either:
    • Transcriptomics for tumor or immune signaling deconvolution/inference
    • Proteomics, metabolomics or epigenetics for immunology or oncology
  • R and/or Python/Perl programming expert (working in Unix and Windows environments).
  • An enthusiasm to explore non-traditional approaches to bring big data together in biologically meaningful ways.
  • Deep understanding of the molecular drivers of cancer and/or immunology.
  • A solid understanding of statistical and mathematical principles for biological data analysis.
  • Proficiency applying pattern matching techniques to multi-omic/phenotypic data.
  • Skilled in effective communication of complex data and methods to a non-expert.
  • Effective contributing to collaborative projects involving cross-disciplinary and global teams
  • Valuable scientific contributions, ideally recognized through publications.
Desirable:
  • A thorough understanding of the contribution of bioinformatics to drug discovery.
  • Well networked within external data science and oncology communities.
  • Applied experience working in pharma or biotech.
  • An excellent publication record.
  • Experience of data interpretation and analysis for:
    • Single cell sequencing.
    • Microbiome profiling.
  • Live and single cell imaging data analysis.
  • SQL/Database management expertise.
  • Experience using data science techniques for:
    • Time series and rea-time data analytics
    • NLP and cognitive approaches for consumption and actionable interpretation of scientific literature.
    • Predictive machine/deep learning, with a focus on techniques revealing actionable biological insight from feature use and predictive rules.
    • Mathematical, Boolean and/or computational modeling of human disease mechanisms.
    • Graph and Bayesian modeling techniques.
