Job Description:
We are seeking a bioinformatician to work on cancer genome analysis, focusing on breast cancer, to work with Professor Carlos Caldas.

Prof Caldas heads the Breast Cancer Functional Genomics Laboratory at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute and is the Lead PI of the Personalized Breast Cancer Programme (PBCP). PBCP is doing whole genome sequencing (WGS) and RNA sequencing (RNAseq) of all breast cancers from consenting patients seen at the Cambridge Breast Unit. To date 200 patients have been recruited with data already available for analysis. Over the next 4-5 years a further 2,000 cases will be prospectively enrolled in this ambitious and unique Programme. PBCP will be a major contributor to ICGC-med.

The successful applicant for the bioinformatics position will be based within the Caldas laboratory at the CRUK Cambridge Institute. The post will be part of a broader successful multi-disciplinary team of cancer bioinformaticians within PBCP, the CRUK CI and ICGC-med. The candidate will be expected to deploy ICGC PCAWG tools (http://docs.icgc.org/pcawg/) to analyse PBCP WGS and RNAseq data. The research will part of ICGC-med in collaboration with Professor Andrew Biankin in Glasgow and Professor Charles Swanton in London. The ultimate aim of the collaboration is to do a joint analysis of breast, lung and pancreatic cancers genomic/transcriptomic datasets in order to robustly compare and contrast mutational landscapes. The successful applicant will have a proven track record of publications in high impact journals, be fluent in at least one of the following programming languages: C++, Python or R, and is expected to have strong skills in the field of cancer genomics.

The position is funded for 24 months subject to mid-term review at 12 months, with the possibility to extend the contract subject to performance.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check and a security check.
