Job Description:
The Precision Genomics Laboratory (PGL), and the Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM) are currently recruiting for a full-time Senior Bioinformatician to support their growing genomics efforts.

We are seeking an ambitious Senior Bioinformatician to identify and develop synergies across different IGM and PGL bioinformatics activities, and help set strategic direction for bioinformatics resources. This role will include close coordination and ongoing collaboration with divisional IT and Informatics teams, and the clinical laboratory. This position represents an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of genomic big data analysis and the field of precision medicine.

The Senior Bioinformatician will manage a range of activities, including the following:

- Provide leadership, mentorship and supervision to all members of the bioinformatics team;

- Participate in the design of processes, and the implementation of data analysis improvements;

- Establish best-in-practice operations,

- Provide training on bioinformatics-related concepts, applications and tools;

- Working closely with statistical geneticists and genome analysts, create, modify, and maintain web-based bioinformatics tools, public domain biological databases and software tools for sequence, domain, and structural analysis;

- Oversee the development of new platforms and solutions for large integrative analysis of genomic data;

- Improve user interfaces to bioinformatics software and databases.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five years of related experience.

Additional Position Specific Minimum Qualifications:

Education (PhD) and experience in a relevant field (e.g. bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or statistical genetics), or commensurate experience with a proven ability to function in a role with this level of responsibility;

- 2+ years' experience leading a small team of computation biologists/bioinformatics scientists;

- Extensive knowledge of programming languages, e.g. Python, Perl, C, etc, and of relational databases;

- Proven track record analyzing next-generation DNA sequencing data or performing genomic analyses;

- Strong knowledge of statistical/population genetics a strong plus;

- Experience performing quantitative analyses on large genomic datasets;

- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment;

- Proven teamwork and leadership skills.

- High creativity. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
