Job Description:
Fixed Term Contract until 30th September 2016 We are looking to recruit a Senior Bioinformatician to work in the Vertebrate Development and Genetics team; in particular to work on the Zebrafish Mutation Project. The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is a world leader in genomic research, with an expanding scientific programme dedicated to understanding gene function in health and disease. The aim of the Zebrafish Mutation Project (ZMP) is to identify a knockout mutation in every protein-coding gene and to provide the research community with a baseline phenotype. This role will involve both data analysis and programming. At least 50% of your time will be spent analysing ZMP data (e.g. next generation sequencing data) and developing the database, pipelines and bioinformatics tools that support the phenotypic analysis of ZMP mutants. The remaining time will be spent supporting the other work of the Vertebrate Development and Genetics team (e.g. with ad hoc bioinformatics solutions).
Essential Skills:
•Masters degree (or above) or equivalent experience in a relevant subject area (e.g. bioinformatics, computational biology, or computer science
•Knowledge and experience of programming in Perl and/or Python.
•Ability to prioritise tasks to ensure the right things are done at the right time.
Ideal Skills:
•Experience with genomic and next generation sequencing analysis or a background in developmental biology.
•Knowledge of statistics.
•Experience with relational databases.
•Web development experience.
•Familiarity with developing in a Unix/Linux environment
The Genome Campus is a 100 acre estate south of Cambridge in the grounds of Hinxton Hall (www.hinxton.org).
