The analyst will contribute to the broad research effort in pediatric oncology and hematology at Baylor Medical School’s and Texas Children’s Hospital. The analyst will be expected to work independently on select project and within a team environment on other projects. Bioinformatic analysis of a variety of data types, but especially high- throughput sequencing. Typically, for each research project, the analyst will consult on research-study design, perform data analysis, and collaborate with researchers to improve data presentation. Projects are expected to require data analysis and integration of multiple data types, possibly from multiple sources. For example, following the identification of a genetic alteration in a small dataset, a project may require the study of multiple larger-scale datasets with shared phenotypes and/or genotypes to computationally aid in interoperating the physiological effects of this alteration. Required: Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Biological Sciences. Preferred: Master degree in Computer Science or Biological Sciences Required: -Three years experience in scientific programming with applications to biological research -Basic knowledge in statistics; mastery of at least one scripting or programming language including Python, Perl, Shell scripting, C/C++, Java; interest in computational analysis of biological data and its application to improving diagnostics and therapeutics. -Experience in analyzing biological data and evidence for completion of projects in genomics or computational biology preferred. -The ideal candidate will have experience with analyzing genetic data and genomic data sets, a solid knowledge of sequence analysis and visualization, gene regulation, and annotation approaches and concepts.
