The primary role of the Sr. Bioinformatics Analyst position is to provide business analysis and implementation support for biomedical research and healthcare analytics applications. The position is a hands-on analyst with extensive software programming and application development experience who will analyze, understand and document the institutional and research data needs to support various research and informatics projects. The position will help formulate and deliver the scope of work for several Informatics projects, and actively contribute to development of software solutions, interfaces, databased applications, and APIs for Einstein/Montefiore’s research management and infrastructure. - Coordinate and participate in management of research informatics implementations in a multi-disciplinary team including research coordinators, clinician-investigators, managers and administrators, software developers, engineers, support and reporting staff, etc. on various aspects of a project.
- Work with project sponsors, management and the technical team to formulate project objectives and scope of work based on vision, hospital and research needs, a good understanding of the technical environment and sound business analysis practices.
- Apply informatics principles for data management, governance, and quality initiatives to help formulate the data strategy for the team and the organization.
- Analyzes, understands and documents the institutional and research data infrastructure.
- Document and implement interfaces between the Clinical Research Management System (CRMS), IRB systems, Enterprise Data Warehouses and the EMR
- Engage in building reports, data synchronization, user training and implementation of the Einstein/Montefiore Clinical Research Management System
- Work with CRMS vendor to coordinate system updates/patches and issue resolution.
- Translate informatics requirements into implementation using tools and technologies including C#/.Net, Scripting, REST/SOAP web services, JSON, XML, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Design Database schemas; write SQL queries and PL/SQL procedures and packages in database systems such as Oracle, Postgres etc.
- Partner with subject matter experts (SME’s) and technical leads to translate business requirements to technical specifications and user stories for implementation.
- Demo applications being implemented regularly to end users and conduct user training.
- Takes initiative in working with external teams on topics around data quality, knowledge management, information representation and data governance to further the state of the art for the organization and the healthcare domain
- Participate in all aspects of governance and compliance in the use of the systems, QA reporting to ensure institutional policies and procedures are adhered to and that data integrity is maintained.
- Works with researchers, scientists and analysts in understanding and evolving statistical models
Requirements:
Education
Required: A bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or Management Information System is required. Preferred: A master’s or post-doctorate degree in bio-informaticsExperience
Required:- At least 2 years of experience working in healthcare domain, working with EMR/Clinical databases and warehouses
- At least 2 years of experience in data analysis, database management, or analytic use of data.
- At least 2 years of experience developing database applications, backend and web-based applications, user interfaces, and programing interfaces.
- At least 2 years of experience writing SQL queries and store procedures.
- At least 2 years of experience developing backend and web applications in .Net or Java
- At least 1 years of experience with designing and optimizing Database schemas
- Experience in implementation of Velos or other Clinical Research/Trial management system
- Experience working with EPIC or other EMR systems
- Experience in Biomedical Science or Bioinformatics.
- Experience in predictive modeling, machine learning, and data mining
- Experience in business or biomedical research workflow analysis.
- Experience developing and integrating REST or SOAP web services
- Experience in statistical analysis
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and writing skills to communicate and document user interactions and requirements
- Strong analytical skills to analyze, categorize and translate business/user requirements to functional requirements
- Excellent presentation skills for demo and user training, writing skills for user documentations
- Demonstrated ability to take initiatives, establish/enhance business analysis procedures and improve operational efficiency
