Job Description:
Reports To: Manager Bioinformatics Systems Architect

Department: BioChemistry

Job Summary Complete Genomics is expanding its group of bioinformatics scientists to assist the development and application of methods and tools for complete genome sequence analysis. The Senior Bioinformatics Analyst will play a key role in the continued development of Complete Genomics’ whole genome sequencing by providing analysis support to various internal groups.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
Support the analysis internal development experiments.Including performing the analysis, interpretation of results, creation of written reports, and the communication of findings back to scientists.
Develop, extend, and run tools used for the analysis of Complete Genomics sequencing data including base calls and scores, mappings, coverage, variant calls, etc.
Quickly prototype tools/scripts used to support analysis.
Evaluate and incorporate third party open-source tools to support analysis.
Actively participate in the design of development experiments.
Provide written documentation of methods.
Interact and collaborate with members of other groups.
Perform other work related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Advanced degree in computer science, statistics, or bioinformatics (or biology or genetics, along with a very strong analytical background) with a minimum of 5 years of bioinformatics experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Versed in a programming language (Python, Perl, C++, Java, R, etc.).
Demonstrated experience building tools to support analysis. Experienced in Linux operating systems.
Strong statistical analysis skills. Previous experience manipulating, analyzing, and annotating very large NGS data sets.
Previous experience with DNA sequence, variation, and annotation databases. (dbSNP, refSeq, CCDS, UCSC, Ensembl, GO, etc.).
Superior cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
