Job Description:
Verogen is seeking a talented Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to join our product development team where you’ll play an integral role in in the adaptation of NGS for a cutting-edge, sample-to-answer forensic identification system. Be a part of a solid, stable team that believes you can have a good time while solving complex problems. Your role on the team will be to:

  • Lead efforts to design and develop all bioinformatic specifications and requirements of the system
  • Perform scientific and statistical analysis using DNA sequencing output and modern forensic modeling
  • Build and maintain automated sequencing data analysis pipelines by developing specialized and sophisticated data structures and algorithms
  • Collaborate in a cross-functional environment with assay and software development to create cohesive software solutions
  • Contribute to R&D efforts by serving as an expert in applied bioinformatic implementations
Required Skills & Experience:
  • 5 years of experience performing in a similar role working the genomic sequencing software
  • Extensive knowledge of NGS using SBS technology and data analysis tools such as BWA, GATK, SAMTOOLS, etc.
  • Proficient in building custom, automated bioinformatic pipelines
  • Experience with statistical modeling of genomic data
  • Experience working with Perl, Python or other scripting languages
  • Knowledge of object oriented programming
  • Ability to think strategically and take ownership of domain areas
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication skills
Education:

Masters in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field
