Job Description:
Applications are invited for a Senior Computational Biologist (HIDI) to join the Genomics Platform of HIDI led by Dr Calliope Dendrou at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics (WHG).

The post will involve analyses of a range of different data types, including RNA-seq in single cells, cultured cells and tissues, BCR and TCR sequencing, ATAC-seq, Hi-C, and mutation detection. Furthermore, the generation and thus the analysis of protein libraries on the basis of RNA-seq, exome and whole genome sequencing data for mass spectrometric data interpretation will be an integral part of the position. You should be able to effectively communicate computational analyses to wet-lab scientists and to advise on the project design where appropriate. Contributing to scientific publications and grant proposals will be welcomed.

You must have a proactive and adaptable approach to work and willingness to tackle a variety of projects in parallel. Excellent record keeping, careful methodological work skills and the ability to meet deadlines are essential. You will need to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including the Dendrou research group and staff within the Oxford Genomics Centre, the project manager for HIDI, parallel Platform staff and potential users.

You will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in computational biology, statistics, bioinformatics or other relevant subject and experience in the analysis of next-generation sequencing and other ‘omics data, including single-cell RNA-seq. You will have proficiency with a high-level programming language (e.g. C++, Java) and/or appropriate scripting languages; proficiency with statistical data analysis tools such as R or Python as well as demonstrable success using and developing bioinformatics or biostatistics tools, as evidenced through a strong publication record. You should also have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate results clearly and effectively by oral and written means, and to discuss scientific ideas; good project management skills, ability to meet deadlines, and excellent record keeping and precision-driven work approach and evidence of ability to take a leadership role and drive project completion and ability to work independently on seve ral projects in parallel.

An appointment at Grade 7 (£31,604 - £38,833 p.a.) may also be considered for a less experienced candidate with suitable adjustment of the responsibilities.

The position is funded by the NIHR and is fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance
