System administrator for BIMSB Bioinformatics platform : Berlin, Germany

Job Description:
We are looking for one System administrator for BIMSB Bioinformatics platform

The MDC's BIMSB Bioinformatics platform is seeking an experienced individual to be responsible for GNU/Linux workstation and HPC user support. The candidate must be experienced with various GNU/Linux distributions (at least CentOS and Ubuntu), software compilation and installation from source, and troubleshooting GNU/Linux problems. The candidate must be comfortable with Shell scripting and should be comfortable with at least one programming language (e.g. Scheme, Python, Ruby, Perl). Some familiarity with administrative concepts such as network storage, configuration management (e.g. Puppet, Ansible, Chef, Guix), backup/recovery, operational security and cluster computing (Sun GridEngine) is expected. Some knowledge of Windows and macOS will be useful. The candidate will be responsible for software deployment and upgrades, system maintenance, ongoing performance tuning, and resource optimization as required.

Requirements:

The successful candidate must work independently and efficiently in a team setting and have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience with bioinformatics software will be a plus. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a comparable degree and at least 1 year of system administration experience, or in the absence of a Bachelor's degree at least 4 years of GNU/Linux system administrator experience required or one of the following certificates:

- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)

- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)

- Linux Foundation Certified Sysadmin

- Linux Foundation Certified Engineer Being able to communicate in English (German knowledge is useful but not required).

The technical expertise is complemented by essential soft skills, the ability to communicate and work in teams, flexibility and targeted action.

The MDC Berlin-Buch is a member of the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers, and its focus is biomedical research in the areas of Cardiovascular and Metabolic diseases, Cancer and Function and Dysfunction of Nervous System. The Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology (BIMSB) of the MDC expands and adds systems biology approaches to decipher the ‘post-transcriptional regulatory code’ and to directly integrate it with other major cellular and gene regulatory mechanisms.

Salary : Remuneration is according to the German TVöD (Bund) up to scale (E11).
