Job Description:
A hands-on data scientist role, working with a small team of engineers, biologists and medicinal chemists in our Applications Group. You will be the interface and the glue that binds the life scientists with the computer scientists. You will take responsibility for the data collection, analysis, interpretation and modeling for individual internal and collaborative drug discovery programs. You will be joining the Applications group, which consists of cutting edge data scientists with computational and life science backgrounds. The group is routinely engaged in multiple drug discovery programs across a variety of therapeutic areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize, mine, explore, and interpret laboratory data from multiple sources under multiple conditions (e.g. CRO, publication, and patent data)
  • Develop, implement, and apply statistical methods and algorithms to biochemical data sets using statistical and mathematical principles
  • Build and analyze machine learning models based on laboratory data
  • Build statistical analysis systems and quality control metrics that will allow for performance monitoring and retrospective analysis of drug discovery programs
  • Explain complex and difficult statistical concepts to biologists and medicinal chemists
  • Explain complex and difficult biological and chemistry concepts to computer scientists
  • Keep meticulous documentation on process and decision making for communication and retrospective analysis
Skills & Qualifications:
  • A PhD (or Masters with experience) in Statistics, Mathematics, Biochemistry, Biology, Bioinformatics, or related quantitative fields
  • At least 6 years of relevant industry experience required
  • Strong project management skills with significant practical experience managing multiple, parallel projects
  • Skilled programmer in at least one analytical language such as R, Python, MATLAB, etc.
  • Understanding of data modeling and database technologies, including experience with SQL
  • Understanding of the practical application of modern machine learning methods
  • Proven experience in critical evaluation of the scientific literature; basic skills in mining of biological assay data is a plus
  • Good understanding of methods in cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology are essential
  • Ability to work well under pressure and drive projects that affect critical timelines
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Pluses:

  • Experience with KNIME or Pipeline Pilot
  • Professional software development experience
