Job Description:
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has an opening for a Senior Research Associate position in Walnut Creek, CA.

Perform work assignments related to NGS sequencing library production. Evaluate sample quality, create various types of libraries from samples (DNA, RNA or chromatin) from JGI users’ including prokaryote, eukaryote organisms, and environmental samples. Investigate library preparation issues relating to production needs, identify areas of improvement and offer feedback. Understand and interpret sequencing QC results, identify library failure, propose solution and implement modifications. Participate in technology development projects to support scientific research. Independently design and execute experiments, analyze and interpret results, summarize and conclude data in presentable format. May contribute to data, text and conclusions in group publications. Implementation of new products in JGI supporting users science. Write, update and maintain standard operating procedures. Prepare progress reports, attend and present project progress in group meetings.

REQUIREMENTS: Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Oceanography, or a related field and 2 years of experience in the position offered or in a research-related occupation.

Demonstrated understand NGS related chemistry;

Knowledge in molecular biology of NGS library construction;

Fundamental understanding of NGS genomics data;

Experience with laboratory and molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid purification, NGS library preparation and sequencing;

Experience troubleshooting process problems, conducting analysis of data and recording experimental data;

Track records in leading research projects; from designing experiments, performing experiments, collecting data, and analyzing and interpreting data to support research activities;

Knowledge in procurement, budget and cost analysis for sample preparation

Experience in algal stock culture maintenance.

Demonstrated skills and knowledge in algal research
