Job Description:
GigaGen seeks a talented, highly motivated Senior Scientist in Bioinformatics to work alongside laboratory scientists on research funded by a $50 million co-development deal with Grifols, plus Phase II SBIR grants from the NCI and NIAID. The project involves deep analysis of high-throughput sequencing data and massively parallel biological assays. The candidate will lead identification of novel drug targets through design and analysis of functional genomics experiments, in collaboration with laboratory personnel. The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Cancer Biology, or Genetics with 5+ years of experience coding in high-level languages such as Perl, Python, and R.

One or more of the following specific skills could be useful:

  • Deep experience coding high-level languages such as Perl, Python, and R.
  • Practical skills in probability and statistics, for example, linear regression, design of experiments, and analysis of variance.
  • Experience with visualization of complex datasets ("big data"), for example using igraph.
  • Experience building, maintaining, and mining biological databases, e.g., gene expression, deep sequencing, genome annotation.
  • Comforrable computing in command line Linux environment, preferably with skills in system administration.
  • Knowledge of cancer biology, cell biology, and immunology, i.e., ability to read and understand technical literature and interact closely with laboratory teams.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience, desire, and/or interest in drug discovery and development, with a particular focus on biologics.

  • MS or PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Cancer Biology, Genetics, or related discipline from a respected research university (MIT, Harvard, Berkeley, Stanford, UC, etc)

  • High-level intellectual interests rather than a focus on a particular molecular or cellular pathway, or even a particular technology
  • Not afraid of expressing your ideas
