Job Description:
We seek a talented computational scientist who will work in a highly collaborative environment on the analysis, statistical modeling, and the generation of hypotheses from high-dimensional tissue, cell and molecular data. This position is expected to play a key scientific role, leveraging innovative computational analysis strategies and methods on rich patient data to empower data-driven decisions for development of drug programs and molecular biomarkers in Celgene’s clinical portfolio. Scientific activities associated with this position range from provision of deep insight into therapeutic mechanisms of action for existing and novel therapies in clinical development, identification of patient phenotypes associated with therapeutic effect and outcome in key indications, and development of molecular biomarker hypotheses for implementation into clinical trials as potential diagnostic tests. Data will originate from a wide range of cellular and molecular profiling platforms, including transcriptomic, proteomic, genomic, functional and immunophenotypic assays.

This role offers opportunity to impact and accelerate the delivery of transformational therapies in key diseases of unmet medical need, particularly in lymphoid and myeloid diseases. Strong interest in the inter-disciplinary application of computational analysis methods to life sciences data is imperative.

Responsibilities:

Working in collaboration with computational, biological and clinical scientists across the Celgene Research & Early Development (R/ED) organization, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in cross-functional disease teams to identify clinically-relevant patient segments by computational analysis of public and proprietary biomarker and clinical datasets.
  • Apply existing and novel computational analyses to high-dimensional data from multiple assay platforms, integrating knowledge from preclinical experiments and clinical trials, to i) guide the development of molecular patient selection and biomarker hypotheses to support late-stage clinical programs, and ii) support early-stage programs that aim to develop novel therapies.
  • Prioritize across projects and take responsibility for delivery of research output to agreed objectives and timelines. Author scientific reports, with methods, results and conclusions presented in a publishable standard.
  • Pursue leading computational research as a member of the global Research Analytics group, and contribute to collaborative efforts as required across the wider Research Informatics & Knowledge Utilization (RIKU) department.
  • Contribute to planning and execution of collaborative projects with leading academic and commercial research groups worldwide.
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics or related field from a recognized higher-education establishment, with 6 years of work experience
  • At least 3 years post-doctoral experience in research environment in either industry or academia required.
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications in top-tier scientific journals.
  • Experience in quality assessment, analysis, interpretation and visualization of terabyte-scale datasets, including high-throughput sequencing data.
  • Expertise in algorithmic implementation, statistical programming and data manipulation, using e.g. R/Bioconductor and contemporary, open-source bioinformatics tools and database structures.
  • Preference given to candidates with a track record of developing portable algorithms that can be shared with peers.
  • Proven expertise to distill, analyze, interpret and identify predictable patterns within complex datasets, particularly those associated with pharmacogenomics and biomarker discovery.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, collaborative nature and adaptability across disciplines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluent verbal and written English language skills prerequisite.
