Job Description:
HJF is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to support the Bioinformatics Core for the Collaborative Health Research Initiative Program (CHIRP) at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland has an immediate opportunity for a High Performance Systems Engineer. The High performance systems engineer will manage computational infrastructure for the Bioinformatics Core.

Responsibilities:

This individual will perform software configuration and installations to support the CHIRP computer cluster, storage cluster, tape system and LIMS database. This individual would have these responsibilities:

  1. Maintaining and monitoring the operation of the current configuration of CHIRP systems, including enterprise equipment as well as workstations.
  2. Trouble shooting software problems as they arise and reconfiguring to fix.
  3. Maintaining and expanding the current systems administrator documentation, and communicating additional details.
  4. Working with vendor support on hardware needing replacement, and software patches.
  5. Performing data exports and archives, according to standard procedures.
  6. Provides collaborative assistance to USU personnel that require the incumbent's expertise.
  7. Completes other projects as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Experience in building and maintaining high performance computer environment. Preference for experience in scientific research. Preference for experience in Amazon Cloud storage and compute.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:

Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline. PhD degree preferred.

Minimum Experience: 5+ years related experience

Physical Capabilities: Extended periods of sitting and working at a computer.

Work Environment: Office or laboratory environment
