We are seeking an energetic individual for an entry level Bioinformatics Engineer position who can work as part of a team. This position is located in either our San Diego, CA or Mountain View, CA office. The successful applicant will need to:
- Quickly learn the structure of the existing software.
- Run, monitor and troubleshoot existing Bioinformatic workflows.
- Be able to modify the existing software and/or re-write it in a more efficient language.
- Assist in the maintenance, development and optimization of pipelines and tools for metabolomic and NGS data analysis.
- Must be able to legally work in the US.
- Candidates with a BS degree in Bioinformatics with several (3+) years of industry experience, or MS in Bioinformatics with 1+ years of industry experience.
- Expertise in Python Programing.
- Expertise with Postgres (desired) or other relational sql based DB.
- Expertise in Linux and Shell programming.
- Familiarity with source code revision control such as git, svn or related systems.
- Experience working with NGS data, workflows and common bioinformatics tools (bwa/bowtie, samtools, bedtools).
- Familiarity with Amazon's AWS ecosystem.
- Expertise in multiple programing languages: Python, C++ , Perl , Scala.
- Experience working with containers such as Docker.
- Experience in the development of bioinformatics tools for genomic data analysis.
- Experience in the development of bioinformatic pipelines and workflows.
- Experience in the validation and optimization of bioinformatic tools .
- Experience with transcriptomic or meta-transcriptomic data and analysis.
- Familiarity with and experience in the use of NCBI and other common gene, protein and pathway annotations sources and databases.
- Familiarity with microbial, metabolomics or human genomics literature
- Experience with of taxonomy and taxonomic classification systems.
