We are seeking a senior level bioinformatics scientist and manager to supervise and perform analysis of NGS and other functional omics data sets, genome scale modeling and database and software development in an agile environment. The role is both hands on and managerial. The individual will lead a small team of bioinformatics scientists and programmers supporting engineers, fermentation scientists and synthetic biologists across the company and internationally. This position requires a person with strong commitment to computational science, a deep knowledge of microbial molecular biology, fermentation, and synthetic biology, with demonstrated expertise in genomics, bioinformatics, statistics, and programing. We are seeking an energetic, results-oriented scientist capable of team leadership, who is also happy to drill down, write code and crunch data. Beyond technical ability, the ideal candidate will have, and will articulate, a broad vision for the role of computational biology in an expanding, commercial, scientific enterprise. Position Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics or related fields.
- 10+ years of related working experience.
- Thorough background in omic technologies, micro- , molecular, and synthetic biology
- Knowledge of bacterial evolutionary biology
- Strong proficiency with python, perl, and shell scripting.
- Solid quantitative skillset as evidences by fluency in Matlab or Octave, and R.
- Demonstrated experience managing scientific teams and software development projects.
- Extensive experience with NGS variant calling algorithm development.
- Extensive experience with NGS data analysis pipeline development.
- Demonstrated background in integration and dissemination of omics data
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques and open source tools.
- Competence in database design including backend and front end components.
- Effective, specifically technical, communication skills.
- Excellent overall verbal and written communication skills.
