Job Description:
Genia is looking for a motivated and team-oriented individual with outstanding Linux System Administration skills who can build and maintain network, storage, and computation for R&D activities. The successful candidate will support all hardware activities, including OS evaluation, testing and deployment, computer and server setup and administration, storage management, and network infrastructure support.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Design and implement a unified network login and network file system environment for our Linux machines and VM’s. Design system and migration to minimize disruption to the business. Anticipate and solve performance issues Monitor and forecast resource demands to optimize capacity management Implement detailed network-wide monitoring of performance and availability, including hosts and services Work with various groups in the company to understand requirements and usage patterns Proactively monitor network performance, troubleshoot and resolve issues Install, configure, patch, maintain Linux workstations serving various functions Monitor host and application performance, resolve issues In conjunction with rest of IT team, develop and operate backup and restore of critical data Plan and own high-performance and network file systems to enable consistent logical view of data storage across the company Monitor, manage storage use and plan for appropriate capacity Efficiently and reliably manage large data flows across LAN, WAN, and cloud networks Who you are You’re someone who wants to influence your own development. Experienced with large-scale use of cloud computing for massive data Familiarity with HPC clusters and tools Proven ability to design, build, operate, monitor scalable network and Linux systems in production environments Broad knowledge and experience leveraging open-source tools for systems administration Pro skills in Bash, Python, or other scripting language Skilled in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco core switches, routers, firewalls Knowledgeable about security and infrastructure best practices Experienced in supporting database operations Strong problem-solving skills and ability to track network, IT issues to successful resolution Ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision in a collaborative fast paced environment Ability and desire to learn quickly and apply that knowledge effectively Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills Experience with high-speed networking and massive data transfers preferred. Tsunami, Aspera, bbcp. Experience supporting NGS and related bioinformatics software tools and pipelines preferred Experience with Sun Grid Engine, cluster management tools preferred Experience in communicating with various stakeholders to collect and scope requirements for infrastructure Experience supporting Windows-based server and desktop systems preferred BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent industry experience Minimum of 7 years experience supporting Linux and cloud operations in high-performance environment
