The Oracle Health Sciences Global Business Unit (HSGBU) is a specialized business unit focused solely on the software and service needs of the health sciences industry. By delivering software solutions aimed at adding value to Healthcare and life science organizations the HSGBU has an opportunity in the area of software and database engineer.

Responsibilities

Responsible for architecture, design and implementation of large scale data warehouse for genomic and clinical data, including gene sequencing data that supports building translational/precision medicine applications on top. With your deep understanding of genomics and clinical data, you are expected to work closely with product managers and understand well functional requirements, particularly in the area of genomics, translate them into implementable designs and guide a team of engineers building translational/precision medicine solutions.

Analyze input data structures and functional data usage patterns to create efficient database logical and physical models, including aggregate tables, pivoted tables, relational and dimensional marts.

Design and develop efficient data access algorithms and queries to support translational/precision medicine applications.

Design and develop efficient data processing pipelines to load and transform the source genomics data from various formats into clinical and genomic data repositories.

Collaborate with developers and performance engineers to design well-performing data loading and access patterns and tune SQL queries

Prepare unit tests and reports to assure fidelity of data transformations

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or Computational Genomics and 5 years of professional work experience (or a master's degree and 2 years of relevant experience) is required.

Experience with genomics, life-sciences and clinical data.

Knowledge of genotyping pipelines is a plus

Expertise with Oracle databases and data warehousing

Expert-level Oracle SQL and PL/SQL skills.

Expertise with relational/dimensional database modeling.

Proficiency with Unix/Linux shell scripting and administration

Experience with Python or Perl

Experience with big-data technologies such as Hadoop, MongoDb, or other NoSQL-based data stores.

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Analyze, design develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for commercial or end user applications. Writes code, completes programming and performs testing and debugging of applications.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will specify, design and implement major changes to existing software architecture. Create new architecture for a moderate size product or a portion of a major product. Build and execute unit tests and unit test plans. Review integration and regression test plans created by QA. Communicate with QA and porting engineering to ensure consistency, testability and portability across products in general.

Provide leadership and expertise in the development of new products/services/processes, frequently operating at the leading edge of technology. Recommends and justifies major changes to existing products/services/processes. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 8 or more years of software engineering or related experience.
