Job Description:
We have two exciting Statistical Programmer posts available at the JDRF/Wellcome Diabetes and Inflammation Laboratory (DIL) in data analysis and integration. The DIL aims to treat and prevent the autoimmune disease type 1 diabetes by understanding the underlying genetic and mechanistic pathways. From our own projects and others worldwide (e.g. http://helmsleytrust.org/news/helmsley-charitable-trust-awards-52-million-support-global-platform-prevention-autoimmune) there is a data avalanche that will accelerate our understanding of autoimmunity, affecting over 5% of populations, with an aim to prevent and develop treatments for type 1 diabetes. You will lead research projects and support statistical analyses throughout the DIL, help supervise junior group members and DPhil students, contribute to writing grant applications and join our collaborations, nationally and internationally, at a senior level. You will be passionate about statistics, experimental design and analysis, and about wanting to make a difference in a major childhood illness. Excellent communication skills and a proven, successful track record in biomedical research are essential. You will have a first degree in a relevant subject area such as computer science, bioinformatics, mathematics, biostatistics, medical statistics or statistics along with substantial experience and a strong track record of applying statistics and programming in a scientific environment. You will be an expert in one or more programming languages, such as bash, R, C, Python. A PhD in a relevant subject area would be desirable. The posts are funded by the Wellcome and are fixed-term until 30 September 2020 in the first instance. Depending on experience, this post may be offered at Grade 7 (£31,604 - £38,833 p.a.) with reduced responsibilities. Applications for this vacancy are to be made online.
