Job Description:
The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Systems Programmer who will work with members of the Informatics Core, Pharmacology Core, and Analytic Core of the Natural Product Drug Interactions (NaPDI) Center of Excellence to perform data entry, validation, and curation for the NaPDI repository. The incumbent will work under the supervision of Dr. Richard Boyce and in coordination with other project investigators to maintain and improve the Standard Operating Procedures for both the NaPDI repository and public portal.

The incumbent will also help with the various data collection, data cleaning, analysis, system evaluation, and manuscript development activities that the NaPDI Informatics Core will undertake. The Systems Programmer will also work with the IC to conduct user testing and qualitative inquiries for the NaPDI repository and public portal web applications. Separate user testing activities will be conducted for each app. Both will involve observing and interviewing participants who are conducting tasks using beta versions of the web applications to identify potential barriers, expectations, and values regarding the functionality and content. The incumbent will work with the IC team to refine the applications based on findings and conduct a second round of user studies.

The Systems Programmer will also conduct focus groups to identify common preferences for data presentation in the public portal (e.g., layouts, content wording). The incumbent will work with the University of Pittsburgh Qualitative Data Analysis Program (QDAP) at the University Center for Social and Urban Research to conduct the focus groups and code/analyze the data collected. Focus group participants will evaluate the portal and participate in a group discussion to discuss features of the NaPDI app, including the interactivity and usability of the different components of the portal. The incumbent will help translate the focus group results into final content and portal design features.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position:

Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics required. A basic knowledge of pharmacology, experience reading technical reports about drug and natural product pharmacology, database management and query design, qualitative methods to aid in systems design.
