Job Description:
This position offers an excellent opportunity to participate in a novel inquiry-based educational program that integrates classroom teaching, interactive tutorials and laboratory-based research. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver classroom and laboratory education in bioinformatics, assist in the ongoing development of the bioinformatics component of the undergraduate BHSc program, and contribute to bioinformatics courses and training for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The candidate will also be encouraged to assist in the coordination and supervision of undergraduate independent research projects that integrate with both their own and other diverse research areas within the Faculty. This educational position will be integrated into the Cumming School of Medicine’s Centre for Health Genomics and Informatics, and a research- and service-based platform in genomics and informatics led by the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute.

Current relevant strengths in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the University of Calgary include genetics, proteomics, developmental biology, cancer biology and cell signaling. Responsibilities:

• Deliver undergraduate classroom and laboratory education in bioinformatics (minimum 3 semester-long classes)

• assist in ongoing development of bioinformatics curriculum

• contribute to bioinformatics training for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows

• assist in coordination and supervision of undergraduate independent research projects

Qualifications:

Qualifications include a Ph.D., at least two years of post-doctoral experience, and a proven record of teaching excellence and research success in the analysis, development or application of computational tools or approaches to biological/biomedical science, particularly as these relate to omic technologies. Evidence for teaching excellence, particularly in undergraduate science/bioinformatics education, is expected and may include documentation of teaching awards, contributions to curriculum development, peer evaluation of teaching ability and student feedback on teaching.
