The Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute (GCCRI) at the UT Health Science Center – San Antonio is looking for one outstanding postdoctoral fellow to work in the laboratory of Dr. Alex Bishop.

We are seeking motivated, creative postdoctoral fellows to work in the area of computational biology. The focus of research in the lab is to collaborate with lab members to develop and apply computational methods for our genome-wide profiling data (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and others) to support the study of the molecular and cancer biology of pediatric cancer as well as the mechanism of genetic and epigenetic alterations in cancer. We are a highly dynamic interactive team working to synergistically drive each individual’s projects using a multitude of state-of-the-art techniques and systems to address interesting questions. Our lab is particularly interested in addressing the interface between replication stress, homologous recombination, transcription stress and proteotoxicity in a variety of settings.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics area, either from Genome Science, Biology, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biostatistics or related field with experience in next-generation sequencing data analysis. Applicants should have excellent communication skills and ability to conduct research independently. It is essential that the successful candidate will have experience with common bioinformatics methods, tools, websites (such as NCBI, UCSC, Ensembl) and data resources (i.e. TCGA ENCODE). In particular, experience with retrieving, normalizing and analyzing high-throughput datasets using R packages/Bioconductor is highly desired. Experience with mouse xenografts and pharmacological agents in vivo is a plus. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
